Obituary template

An obituary follows a familiar order: the announcement, a short life story, the family, and the service details. Fill in the template below with what you know and leave out anything you don't. If you'd rather not write it alone, you can share the same details with us and read the opening of a finished obituary before deciding anything.

Tips

  • Newspaper or online? Newspapers often charge by line, so keep a short version (about 100–150 words). Funeral home websites have room for a longer one.
  • Check with the funeral home before you publish service times.
  • Have one other family member read it for names and dates.
